EJI cover

The European Journal of Immunology is a basic immunology research journal, focusing on various aspects of immunology including but not limited to antigen processing, cellular immune response, immunity to infection, immunomodulation, innate immunity, molecular immunology, leukocyte signalling, clinical immunology, and new technology. Established in 1971, the Journal has been serving the needs of the immunology community worldwide with objective enthusiasm. Our Executive Committee consists of distinguished immunologists from all over the world, led by our Chairman, Professor Eddy Liew. Our Editorial Board is equally as impressive, and together with the in-house editorial team, we strive to meet the needs and demands of an ever-progressing immunological community. Our “Early View” function enables accepted manuscripts to be available online and citable within a month of acceptance.

Aims and scope: The European Journal of Immunology focuses on publishing primary immunological research. While mechanistic insight, which help us better understand the workings of the immune system is of great importance for the Journal, we are also interested in studies that contain thought-provoking immunological findings.
Target audience: Those working in the fields of immunology, cellular and molecular biology, rheumatology, endocrinology, oncology, haematology and infections
Impact factor: 4.662 (Thomson Reuters Citation Report 2007)

News and EFIS

Our news feature, “News and EFIS” promotes the exchange of information within the immunological communities and societies, as well as enhancing public awareness of immunology.

Call for future “News and EFIS” articles

Do you have items of interest for “News and EFIS”? We welcome suggestions for both topical, themed sections, e.g. women in European immunological research, and more general feature items on subjects relevant to European Research, its implementation, discoveries, development and international impact, as well as international news impacting on Europe and the interplay between the two. Space is limited to a maximum of four pages per issue for this section so individual feature items should be concise (approximately 2500 words and 3-4 Figures; shorter articles are also of interest). Images to accompany items are welcomed. All suggestions should be e-mailed to ejied@wiley-vch.de for consideration.

Submission to EJI and the Peer-Review Process

Submission Guidelines

The European Journal of Immunology offers a web-based manuscript submission and peer review system. This service guarantees fast and safe submission of manuscripts and a rapid assessment process.
To submit your manuscript online, please proceed along the following steps:

  • Please see our Instructions to Authors for detailed manuscript preparation guidelines
  • If you have not already done so, create an account for yourself in our Online Submission System, and submit your manuscript following the instructions of the system. If you have any questions concerning online submission, do not hesitate to contact editorial support at ejied@wiley-vch.de
  • All papers are assessed initially by the journal’s Executive Committee. Authors should indicate two of the journal’s Executive Committee Editors whose area of expertise is closest to the topic of the paper.
  • The journal offers fast review and priority publication track for research articles presenting superior novel findings. Authors can request consideration of their manuscripts during online submission (Frontline: Regular Article/Short Communication) and in the cover letter.

Author Guidelines

Writing a manuscript can be a difficult and exacting process. Here a few tips that authors should consider before submitting their manuscript to the European Journal of Immunology (EJI). More detail will soon be available on the EJI homepage.

  • Objectively assess whether the manuscript is suitable for EJI
  • Clearly present the novelty, strengths and limitations of the study
  • Present the findings clearly and ensure that the manuscript is well-written
  • Ensure that a full statistical analysis of the results has been included
  • Fully discuss the current literature
  • Ensure that the manuscript complies with the format requirements of EJI (see Instructions to Authors for further information on format, style and structure)

Reviewer Guidelines

The editorial team of the European Journal of Immunology has formulated the following guidelines for reviewers to ensure that the peer-review process offered by EJI is as fair and thorough as possible, without being unnecessarily demanding of both reviewers and authors. More detail will soon be available on the EJI homepage.

  • Critically evaluate each manuscript regarding
    • suitability for EJI, a broad immunology journal
    • novelty and general interest for EJI readers
    • the validity of the experiments described
    • the statistical analysis: is it included, complete and have appropriate tests been used?
    • The conclusions drawn: are they warranted?
    • whether the literature has been adequately cited and discussed
  • Provide specific and constructive criticism that would allow authors to improve their studies, keeping in mind that the revision process should only take 3 months, or 6 if especially time-consuming experiments are requested
  • Make a clear recommendation: is the manuscript worth revising?
  • Comment on whether the presentation/language hinders/confuses an otherwise potentially good paper
  • Treat all information as confidential
  • Declare all conflicts of interest
  • Provide the names of all involved in reviewing the manuscript
  • Detail any scientific misconduct detected
  • For revised manuscripts, do not raise any new issues that could have been commented on in the original review
