EFIS is a non-profit umbrella organisation that represents 36 European immunology societies. Via funding initiatives and awards, EFIS helps to support immunological research and education and strengthens scientific interaction via study groups, task forces and its triennial congress - the European Congress of Immunology (ECI).
EFIS Past President
EFIS President Professor Andreas Radbruch is a biologist by training, having done his PhD at the Genetics Institute of Cologne University. He has been the Director of the German Rheumatism Research Centre Berlin, a Leibniz institute, since 1996 and Professor of Rheumatology at the Charité Medical School of the Humboldt University of Berlin since 1998.
He has (co-)authored over 250 original publications on immunological memory, antibody class switching, T and B lymphocyte differentiation, cytometry and cell sorting. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards and grants including the Carol Nachman Prize, the Avery Landsteiner Award and an advanced research grant from the European Research Council.
He has been involved with numerous scientific organizations, including being the past editorial chair of the European Journal of Immunology, the President of the German Society for Rheumatology, the German Society for Immunology and President of the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC).
