Professor Bojan Polić studied Medicine at the University of Rijeka, Croatia before earning his PhD in the department of Physiology & Immunology at the same university. Following his PhD, Professor Polić did his postdoctoral training with Professor Klaus Rajewsky at the University of Cologne, Germany, where he worked on the role of the αβ T Cell Receptor in the maintenance of T cells. Following his return to Croatia, he was made Assistant and then Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka. Between 2007 and 2013, he was the Head of the Histology & Embryology Department at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, where he was also made Full Professor in 2008. Professor Polić established the first Specific Pathogen Free animal research institute in Croatia (LAMRI), including facilities to generate genetically modified animals. His major scientific interests include immune responses involved in the development of insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes mellitus in obesity / viral infection, and the biological roles of the NKG2D receptor. Professor Polić brings much experience to his new role on the EFIS Board as he was the President of the Croatian Immunological Society between 2010 and 2014.
